David D. Welch
Attorney David D. Welch graduated from the University of Florida (B.A. English 1965), and the University of Florida College of Law (J.D. 1967). While at the University of Florida, Mr. Welch was elected by the student body as Chancellor of the Honor Court, one of the top four student government posts at the university, and was inducted into Florida Blue Key, the university's honorary leadership fraternity. After graduating law school, Mr. Welch received a direct appointment as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps ("Navy JAG"), and served on active duty as a prosecutor, defense counsel, and military judge for the 11th Naval District in San Diego, California, and on the staff of the Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet.
Following his active duty military service, Mr. Welch completed an additional 26 years in the Naval Reserve, where he rose to the rank of Captain, served as Commanding Officer of JAG units in Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Washington D.C. and ultimately was appointed by the Secretary of the Navy to duty as an Appellate Judge on the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals. http://www.jag.navy.mil/FieldOffices/NMCCA.htm. Upon completion of his three year assignment on the Court, Mr. Welch was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by President Bill Clinton for his distinguished service on the Court.
As a lawyer in private practice, Mr. Welch has represented individual, governmental, and corporate clients in state and federal courts in litigation involving such diverse areas as real estate, corporate and business disputes, securities law violations, personal injury, product liability, eminent domain, construction liens, construction defects, condominium and homeowner association issues, banking law, professional disciplinary cases (including Florida Bar grievance matters), state and federal class actions, including multi-district and national cases.
A leader in his profession, Mr. Welch has served as President of the Broward County Bar Association, President of the Broward County Trial Lawyers Association, Governor, The Florida Bar Board of Governors, Member of the Executive Committee of The Florida Bar, Chairman of The Florida Bar Technology Task Force, Grievance Committee Reviewing Authority, Chairman of Disciplinary Procedures, Program Evaluation, and numerous other Florida Bar committees, Fellow, Florida Bar Foundation.
Mr. Welch has been recognized by his peers with the highest rating for professional ability and ethics, the prestigious "AV" rating awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a rating he has held for over 30 years.
Aside from his professional career, Mr. Welch is a published novelist, television screenwriter, an avid golfer, skier, and sport fisherman.
